Not far past the front gate is a mostly empty patch of dirt that acts as a central hub for the colony's activities. Every mealtime the entire colony gathers here to receive their ration of food, socialize, and it often turns into a meeting if there are important issues to discuss. While there are a few tables, they seat only a fraction of the colony, but since everything brought into the colony is deposited here, there's usually enough potentially useful junk lying around that happens to be the right size and shape to sit on.
