New Eden is a forum RPG with an original theme that combines a futuristic post-apocalypse with Christian mythology:
The details of what happened ten years ago are hazy; time and the fact that the people who knew much of anything are dead have left much of it to speculation. But it all started with a massive pandemic that ripped through the entire world, killing one of out of every seven people it infected. So many sick and dying people made it difficult for organizations from the smallest store to the largest country to cope - supplies ran short as whole economies collapsed. And that's when things got really ugly. Desperate for supplies, people began looting anything they needed, fighting broke out, and large areas of the world plunged into anarchy. Some people even claim to have witnessed nuclear explosions targeted to large cities.
The survivors of all of this were relatively few in number, but perhaps that's a good thing; supplies of food, clean water, electricity, and other essentials were very hard to come by. People banded together in groups - some of them forming colonies to try and rebuild some sort of safe home for everyone, while others preyed upon the weak to get what they needed. Many of the colonies collapsed and the death toll skyrocketed. But a few of them survived, including New Eden, located on a small rise among the swamps off the Gulf of Mexico. A few hundred people live there, having managed to pull together a community of sorts.
But all is not peaceful; the stories from travellers sound more like superstitious myths and the number of people in the colony who swear that they saw something strange the other day are growing. People simply disappearing while they're out foraging is an unfortunate but not uncommon circumstance, but it seems to be happening more frequently lately. And the number of strangers turning up and asking for refuge in the colony is growing.
Allowed character types include, but are not limited to: ordinary humans, cyborgs, androids, angels, fallen angels, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and demons.
